Over the past 15 years, Matthew Roy has built two careers in health, wellness and fitness: as an action sports and lifestyle photographer and as a personal trainer.
Matthew’s fitness career began in 1999 at Crunch. Shortly after, he was recruited by David Barton Gym, where he finished his tenure as Head Trainer. In 2005, Matthew started training private clients. Today, he works exclusively with private clients at S.H.I.F.T.
A self-taught photographer, Matthew began taking photos seriously six years ago after he broke his ankle. While recovering, his camera became his connection to sports and movement. His energetic photos focus on sports like skateboarding and wakeboarding as well as fitness. Even his portraits are kinesthetic, capturing large and small movements.
Matthew is captivated by details - whether the play of sunlight on a skateboard or the burn of a right oblique. He’s centered in the moment. This philosophy extends to his clients. No matter their physical abilities, Matthew wants them to feel balanced, empowered and confident.
